The most recent Cultural Day at Summit Technical College in Nairobi saw students and staff gather at the Moi Avenue campus to celebrate Kenya’s rich heritage alongside modern talent. Organized by the Dean of Students, the event highlighted the diverse cultural backgrounds of the student body through several creative showcases.
Highlights from the Event
Contemporary Youth Talent: Alongside traditional showcases, the event featured modern poetry, spoken word, and dance battles, allowing students to express contemporary urban youth culture.
Inter-Departmental Fashion & Design Runway: A major highlight of the day came from the Cosmetology and Design department. Students designed, tailored, and modeled creative traditional garments, as well as innovative outfits made entirely from recycled materials, showing off their technical skills.
Traditional Dances and Songs: Representing different communities from across Kenya, students performed traditional folk songs and dances. These performances serve as a way for students to share their local customs, attire, and histories with the rest of the campus.
Cultural Culinary Exhibition: Students from the Hospitality and Food & Beverage department prepared and presented various traditional Kenyan dishes. Attendees had the opportunity to sample local delicacies from different communities, exploring the culinary heritage of the country.
