The Certificate in Accounting and Management Skills (CAMS) is an entry-level foundational course offered by KASNEB. It was created specifically to bridge the gap for students who wish to pursue a professional career in business, finance, or accounting but didn't hit the higher grades required for direct diploma or degree entry. The primary goal of CAMS is to equip you with the fundamental technical skills needed to run small business operations, manage front-office administration, and handle basic bookkeeping. Minimum Entry Requirements To be registered as a CAMS student, you must meet at least one of the following requirements: High School: Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D+ (Plus) or D (Plain). Vocational Pathway: A recognized vocational certificate approved by KASNEB. CAMS Course Structure & Syllabus The course consists of 7 papers divided into two levels. It is highly structured and typically designed to be completed within 8 to 12 months of full-time or part-time study. Level 1: Core Basics (4 Papers) This level introduces you to the operational structures of modern businesses, basic quantitative math, and computer literacy. CM11: Principles of Entrepreneurship and Management CM12: Introduction to Law and Ethics CM13: Fundamental ICT Skills CM14: Fundamentals of Business Mathematics Level 2: Applied Competencies (3 Papers) This level dives directly into numbers, basic auditing practices, customer care, and tax math. CM21: Foundations of Accounting and Auditing CM22: Elements of Public Finance and Administration (Includes basic taxation rules) CM23: Principles of Marketing and Communication Career Opportunities Once you hold a CAMS qualification, you are prepared for foundational business roles such as: Accounts Clerks / Accounts Assistants Cashiers or Bank Tellers Storekeepers and Inventory Controllers Front-Office Administrators and Customer Service staff 🚀 The Career Ladder: What Next After CAMS? CAMS is not an end road; it's a powerful launchpad. Upon successfully passing your CAMS examinations, you gain direct entry into the Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD). This means you skip the first 4 papers of the diploma entirely and jump straight into ATD Level 2, setting you on a fast track toward your eventual CPA!
